Scott Poynting

Scott Poynting came to MMU in 2007 from the University of Western Sydney. Prior to that he was at Macquarie University, also in Sydney, Australia. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of New South Wales. His research and teaching interests include:
Immigration, ethnicity, multicultralism and racism
‘Deviance’ and social control
Class relations
Masculinities
Youth
Education
He has co-authored, with Mike Donaldson, Ruling Class Men: Money, Sex, Power (Peter Lang, 2007); and with Greg Noble, Paul Tabar and Jock Collins, Bin Laden in the Suburbs: Criminalising the Arab Other (Institute of Criminology, 2004) and Kebabs, Kids, Cops and Crime: Youth, ethnicity and crime (Pluto Australia, 2000); and co-edited, with George Morgan, Outrageous! Moral panics in Australia (ACYS Publishing, 2007).
In 2003-4, he was Chief Investigator in the project for the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, ‘Reporting Race Discrimination and Vilification Experienced by NSW and Victorian Arab and Muslim Communities’.
